No Age - An Impression [STREAM]

No Age have shared "An Impression", track 5 from August 20's An Object. This will be nice to hear in context, but is very pleasant on it's own.

FUCK YEAH: Quasi - You Can Stay But You Gotta Go [MP3]

MP3: Quasi - You Can Stay But You Gotta Go

Thank the lord, Quasi is back with a new record! Coming right out of the gate with a total ripper, the back-to-being-a-duo has a double LP (!) called Mole City coming out on October 1st from Kill Rock Stars.

Pre-order the album and choose to package the it with their zine, a t-shirt, an outgoing voicemail message recorded by them for you, and/or a limited white label test pressing of the LP. All that plus any pre-orders get a 3 song covers CD-R for free.

That's a lot of content and it more than certainly makes up for the countless nights of us in the living room with the outside light on, fighting sleep while waiting for them to come home.

Check out "C'mon Stimmung" which puts the duo's further progression fully on displayed while dipped in that delicious rock n roll flavor that they make so goddamned well.

Warm Soda - Jeanie Loves Pop [VIDEO/MP3]

MP3: Warm Soda - Jeanie Loves Pop

Goddamn, this Warm Soda record still rips. Here's a new clip of Someone for You's standout hit "Jeanie Loves Pop".

I'd also like to say that I really appreciate that these dudes are actually trying with their music videos, everyone else lately seems to want only to coast on "coolness". Whatever.

You can download the digital 7 inch for however much you'd like, plus an email address over at their Bandcamp page. Also, don't forget to pre-order/help them fund Sway, the release that this song will appear on - if this gem is any indication of what we're in for, it's gonna be a dope ass ride to the stars.

HOT TRAXXX: Airbird & Napolian - In the Zone [STREAM]

HOLY SHIT - I just found the aptly named "In the Zone" by Airbird & Napolian (with beautiful guest vocals by solo artist/Au Revoir Simone's Erika Spring) a few days ago and I can't believe everyone isn't freaking out about it!

Great production all throughout, but 2 minutes in the dough really starts to rise and what you're left with is fucking delicious. ZONE OUT: this is the new flesh.

DIANA - Born Again [VIDEO]

Whoa this video for DIANA's brilliant smooth 'n pop "Born Again" is like looking through the world with bizzaro sunglasses. It's a great song with some wayyy trippy visuals; lots of colors and flashes AKA that shit we all love. Their self-titled debut is on the way, out August 20th from Jagjaguwar.

Essential viewing:

Baby Birds Don't Drink Milk - Saturday [STREAM]

Alela Diane - About Farewell [STREAM]

HOT TRAXXX: Salvia Plath - House of Leaves [VIDEO]

I know I was anxiously awaiting a new Run DMT release after 2011's brilliant Dreams tape. At long last, news has arrived from the furthest reaches of the Earth: after being chased away from his namesake by shitty DJs, Michael Collins has now reemerged with the genius name Salvia Plath. There's a new record coming out - it's called The Bardo Story, it comes out July 8th on Weird World and that's the crazy radical artwork for it above by Robert Beatty.

Here's the video for "House of Leaves". It's a killer video and holy shit: the song sound like some good gravy.

Wyatt Blair - Ba Ba Ba (Life's a Bitch) [MP3]

MP3: Wyatt Blair - Ba Ba Ba (Life's a Bitch)

Wyatt Blair is a consistent dude and it looks like his upcoming album Banana Cream Dream (out May 22nd on Burger) is going to be a whole new level of amazing. Download the super catchy new free 2 song single/album preview at his Bandcamp: "Ba Ba Ba (Life's a Bitch)" is one of them, and it's great rock and roll all the way through.

FUCK YEAH: Earthless - Red [STREAM]

Oops, looks like I missed this one: Earthless has a song on their digital automobile split with White Hills, which you can download now for free from Scion AV. Both songs were recorded live and I can say that the Earthless jam (aka the only one I've listened to so far) sounds like 2 million dollars on fire.

FUCK YEAH: Zig Zags - Runaway [VIDEO/STREAM]

New Zig Zags video for "Runaway", which appears on their split with The Shrine (who are most excellent). Get yourself a copy!

GO TEAM: The Appleseed Cast - Great Lake Derelict [MP3]

MP3: The Appleseed Cast - Great Lake Derelict

On the 23rd, The Appleseed Cast will release their 8th album Illumination Ritual. It's a record full of the lush soundscapes that they've been building all of these years, but with a mix of maturity and new blood. Very accessible and very essential.

Bass Drum of Death - Shattered Me [STREAM]

Life Coach - Fireball [MP3]

MP3: Life Coach - Fireball

It's always nice to hear from Phil Manley (Trans Am/The Fucking Champs), and this time around he's made a record with his bandmate from Golden - the frequently-misused-but-extremely-talented Jon Theodore. Alphawaves by Life Coach isn't all hits, but when it's working it reaches heights as high as mountains.

FUCK YEAH: Black Bananas - Hey Rockin [STREAM]

Black Bananas have a new split with Tobacco coming out on 4/20 from Volcom. Here's their sleazy ripper from it.

HOT TRAXXX: Weekend - Mirror [STREAM]

Goddamn, I was not expecting a new Weekend album to be announced today, but sometimes you get lucky: Jinx is out July 23rd from Slumberland. Enjoy "Mirror", the album's very, very great first single.

Kids on a Crime Spree - Creep the Creeps [STREAM]

Kids on a Crime Spree wrote one of my favorite songs of the decade - I've listened to "Trumpets of Death" on a near-weekly basis since it's release in 2011. This band knows how to write a pop song, and I'm very pumped to see they're back with some fresh sugar.

Their new single "Creep the Creeps" thankfully sees the gang keeping up the good work: dark times delivered with a smile that makes all of the dentists proud. The 7 inch, backed with b-side "New Ex-Boyfriend" is out next week from Slumberland.

Liars - The Exact Colour of Doubt [VIDEO/MP3]

Chill vibes in this new Liars video for "The Exact Colour of Doubt", from last year's criminally underrated album WIXIW.

HOT TRAXXX: Young Galaxy - New Summer [STREAM]

Young Galaxy have delivered quality tunes for years now, but "New Summer" captures something truly special in 4 minutes and 12 seconds. It's worthy of endless repeats; with this and the other tracks floating out there, I am very curious to see what Ultramarine (out April 23rd) is going to bring to the table.

Charli XCX - What I Like [VIDEO]

This video begins with Charli XCX dancing in her underwear before morphing into a 90's slumber party.

I can get down with that.

FUCK YEAH: Deerhunter - Monomania [STREAM]

There's always a curiosity that is in the air whenever a new Deerhunter song is released for the first time: can they keep it up?

"Monomania", the title track from their May 7th long player, shows that yes they can indeed keep it up. In fact, they sound more erect and reinvigorated than ever before.

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

HOT TRAXXX: Mikal Cronin - Weight [STREAM]

Here's the crazy infectious "Weight", another track from Mikal Cronin's upcoming album MCII. This song is seriously the best thing I've ever heard from him.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Lace Curtains - Bedroom Honesty [MP3]

A rainy day like today can make me think about the stuff I've loved in the past - like the band Harlem. They fucking ruled, and their 2 full lengths (Free Drugs ;-) and Hippies) are still in extra heavy rotation.

So where next? How do we look forward to the future when it showers us with liquid despair? Enter Lace Curtains: it's music from one of the Harlem dudes, and it's a fine continuation of that band's genius songwriting abilities.

HOT TRAXXX: Thee Oh Sees - Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster [MP3]

MP3: Thee Oh Sees - Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster

"Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster" takes the award for riff of the month; it also sounds like a nice day out in the fucking sunshine. Floating Coffin by Thee Oh Sees is released by Castle Face on April the 16th. #cantwait

Shannon and the Clams - Rip Van Winkle [MP3]

MP3: Shannon and the Clams - Rip Van Winkle

Some bands have it down to science; Shannon and the Clams are a shinning example. Dreams in the Rat House, their first for Hardly Art, is out May 25th.

Also of note: Burger just released the Clams' singles collection on tape, so don't forget to snag one.

Dirty Fences - Heaven Is Tonight [MP3]

MP3: Dirty Fences - Heaven Is Tonight

I'm always on the hunt for quality rock 'n roll, yet it's so rare to find in this depressing era of drivel. Sure, I enjoy a good electric pop song as much as the rest of them, but I'd trade it all for something that's worth giving a shit about.

Dirty Fences' Too High to Kross is definitely a step in the right direction: it never stops to linger, staying brisk and on topic all throughout, making sure you're having a good time. Don't be the last one to this party - give these dudes a listen!

Too High to Kross is released on April 9th on Volcom.

FUCK YEAH: Darkthrone - Valkyrie [MP3]

MP3: Darkthrone - Valkyrie

What a trajectory they've made throughout their careers. Here's a track from their very enjoyable new album The Underground Resistance. Enjoy.

Bleached - Next Stop [VIDEO]

Here's a video for "Next Stop", Bleached's first single from April 2nd's Ride Your Heart. It's chock full of the girls hanging around being Bleached, in glorious black and white.

HOT TRAXXX: AlunaGeorge - Attracting Flies [STREAM]

While I've liked most everything I've heard from AlunaGeorge thus far, "Attracting Flies" is the first HOLY SHIT song of theirs that has hit my ears. It's beat and vocals are butter slick, lettuce fresh and bubblegum catchy - it's the kind of track you need to instantly repeat as soon as it's over.

Their debut Body Music doesn't come out until the summer, which is criminal but also perfect timing for something of this caliber.

The Men - I Saw Her Face [STREAM]

Here's another one from The Men's upcoming album New Moon. I have no idea where the band is fucking going, and I love it.

FUCK YEAH: Purling Hiss - Mercury Retrograde [MP3]

My biggest regret of my year living in Philadelphia was never seeing Purling Hiss live, despite many opportunities. I hope 2013 will bring them on a tour that hits PDX, but in the meantime I'm gonna jam the fuck out of Water on Mars. This record is A+++: what it lost in fuzz it gained in rock 'n roll. Download "Mercury Retrograde" asap and begin to truly enjoy your life.

Also I want to give a handshake to Drag City, who have been making cassette editions for most (or maybe all, I'm not sure) of their new releases. Way cool, this is gonna go great with my other 3 Hiss tapes.

No Joy - Lunar Phobia [STREAM]

Always wanted to like No Joy, but it just never clicked for me. Enter "Lunar Phobia": the first single from their sophomore LP sounds like a step in the right direction.

Wait to Pleasure is out April 23rd on Mexican Summer.
