HOT TRAXXX: Ariel Pink featuring Jorge Elbrecht: Hang on to Life [STREAM]

Ariel Pink has proven himself a sure thing since 2010, and when he gets emotional it's a cherry on top of an ice cream mountain. Hear the wonderful A-side of his collaboration with Violens' Jorge Elbrecht above and buy the limited 7 inch from Mexican Summer, if you so desire.

No Joy - Lunar Phobia [STREAM]

Always wanted to like No Joy, but it just never clicked for me. Enter "Lunar Phobia": the first single from their sophomore LP sounds like a step in the right direction.

Wait to Pleasure is out April 23rd on Mexican Summer.

FUCK YEAH: Zig Zags [MP3s]

MP3: Zig Zags - Scavenger
MP3: Zig Zags - Monster Wizard

I was looking at Styrofoam Drone's list of the top 30 7 inches of 2012 and Zig Zags, who I had not heard before, showed up twice (at #22 and #1). Holy shit - these guys... this is the real fuckin' rock n roll deal right here!

They put out two 7 inches this year (Scavenger on Mexican Summer and Monster Wizard on Tubesteak Tuesday Records) and they're making everything sound better now. Here are both of the a sides, enjoy!

HOT TRAXXX: Tamaryn - I'm Gone [STREAM]

Tamaryn's last album The Waves is still a huge favorite of mine, so it's safe to say any new music is highly anticipated. Well, we're all in luck: Tender New Signs is out on October 16th (via Mexican Summer) and the first single (it's GREAT!) is available now in a YouTube video. Hope you like flowers!

HOT TRAXXX: I Wanna Take You Out & In This Filthy City

Holy shit, my whole world opened up after hearing Part Time yesterday. So good! Here's 2 songs from the upcoming full length "What Would You Say?" with "In This Filthy City" being the highlight of the pair. Seriously, you just heard the soundtrack to your weekend.

This comes out July 5th on Mexican Summer. Don't miss it.

(PS. if anyone has a copy or download the Part Time's self titled tape hook me up: unicorntastic@gmail.com you'd rule and maybe I can throw something your way)

HOT TRAXXX: Formerly Games

MP3: Ford & Lopatin - Emergency Room

Seems like the HOT TRAXXX posts are dedicated to bands who change their names to prevent any possible lawsuits: Ford & Lopatin used to be Games. Now they're not. Is the lesson to always choose a unique and complicated band name? Probably, yeah.

But I digress: Games were always on the lips of my peers, but I hadn't heard them myself until a friend gave me a mix tape he made with them on it. The same mix tape from a friend that produced this. Of course it stood out because it was the only song like it on the entire playlist, but it didn't hurt that it was also really, really good.

So they changed their name, created a label called Software under the umbrella of Mexican Summer and are releasing their debut full length "Channel Pressure" come June 7th. That's the cover art above, and this song (like what you see up there) is out of this world. Love that 1980's view of the future!

The Best Song Ever: Love Fade

MP3: Tamaryn - Love Fade

One of the big regrets of mine while the blog was in a clusterfuck at the end of 2010 was that I missed the opportunity to write something about Tamaryn's great LP "The Waves". It was really good and on heavy rotation for awhile, and "Love Fade" is just the perfect song. It evokes emotions without being emotional, and jangles through space while you ride a rocket to the goddamn moon. So while this song may be old news to everyone by now, it's worth taking a step back and revisiting it time and time again. Or forever, like I plan on doing.

FUCK YEAH: Sandy days

MP3: Beaches - In a While
MP3: Beaches - Halve

Yesterday I gave Melbourne, Australia's Beaches a listen and am so grateful that I did: these gals fucking rip bongs and jams, providing a psychedelic big bang in the center of your goddamn heart!

They only have one US release out, last year's 4 song "Eternal Sphere" LP on Mexican Summer, but it's their best one yet and that's where these songs come from. Download them as fast you can, your soul will thank you.

Pearl Harbor ice cream cake party.

MP3: Pearl Harbor - Luv Goon

Mexican Summer has done it again: come October we can jam out the 12 inch ep of Pearl Harbor's "Something About the Chaparrals". I've been streaming "Luv Goon" on their myspace a whole ton lately and am very pleased that the mp3 has been released. It certainly does well to tide me over until the actual release. Seriously, listen to this, it's the soundtrack of your best dream, pop.

FARMER DAVE SCHER everybody!!

MP3: Farmer Dave Scher - Bab'lone Nights

This blog has and always will love anything Beachwood Sparks related, as the past can prove. So it doesn't take much to get me excited about a Farmer Dave Scher (BWS, All Night Radio, all your favourite bands) solo record.

It's coming real soon! "Flash Forward to the Good Times" comes out August 18th on Kemado Records, which isn't a surprise because they are the best record label ever. It's going to be great, and I will gladly accept a promotional copy and will buy the vinyl edition for sure.

To tide us over, Kemado subscription off-shoot Mexican Summer released an already sold out single in the form of "Bab'lone Nights b/w You Pick Me Up"; both hits and both appearing on the full length as well. You can track one of these down on Insound, but hurry up, because as stated they're all sold out otherwise.

So download today's mp3 as it's our post of the week/month/year/whatever. It might be the best song this blog ever posts; in fact I'm sure of it. Just in time for Summer too!
