MP3: Japandroids - Heavenward Grand Prix

While these "chill" bands can be fun sometimes, in the end it lacks any kind of talent or passion. That's just a fact and I think why I like Japandroids so much is because they bring quality every single fucking time. They really get what they're doing and what's great about music in general: they never sound like they're not feeling it.

So I didn't even notice it until the single for "Heavenward Grand Prix" went up for sale online, but I always drop everything in order to get any new output from these dudes. That makes them my favourite band, or pretty fucking close. Download the a-side to this single, the 3rd in a series of 5. All passion. The PJ Harvey cover on the flip side is a curve ball, but a damn fine one at that.

Japandroids have been cool enough to keep the momentum up and running through 2010 with a 7 inch series (beginning with next month's "Art Czars") and "No Singles", a collection of their 2 eps pre-dating last year's fucking awesome "Post-Nothing" lp. The 7 inch is awesome and looking forward to hearing their older stuff. Thanks Polyvinyl!

I have heard the name Japandroids going around for some months now but I never got around to giving them a listen until last week when I was on the Polyvinyl website for some reason. As soon as I heard "Young Hearts Spark Fire" I was hooked. It's like all of those great bands I grew up with, but using the mature, adult mindset I am currently enjoying so much.

So yeah, I pre-ordered the vinyl and got the album download right away and I've been digging it tons. "Post-Nothing" is a lot of fun and sure, there are one or two cheesy songs but I can't play music, so who am I to judge? Maybe they're really cool and I'm missing something. It's not even that big a deal, they don't even suck they're just kinda... whatever. The point is, this album fucking rules. Make it happen.
