TOPS - Rings of Saturn [VIDEO] / Go Away [MP3]

Tender Opposites, the debut album by Montreal's TOPS, is one I wish was getting noticed more. It's solid and clever all the way through, featuring songs with both bliss and sadness (today we're featuring one of each). What more could you possibly want??

David Comes 2 Trife

MP3: Fucked Up - Turn the Season

Fucked Up are a very popular and widely prolific band. Which makes it somewhat strange that the upcoming David Comes To Life is only the third full-length output in a band that's conceptually very regimented. Perhaps, that's why, of course, they've only released three—to ensure that the quality of such meets only their highest standards. After the "Royal Pudding" incident, Canadians are surely in need of a pick-up, which this provides. Enjoy.

Red sets them off

MP3: Women - Bullfight

I'm of two mindsets when it comes to the possible implosion of Women:

- That's a pretty rock and roll way to go out, and it'd be on top
- Their 2 records are some of the best contributions to music anyone has made in the last 10 years and it'd be a shame since you know they have more hits in them

Whatever their fate, they have a new song appearing on a four way split 7 inch from Faux Discx. Buy that here and enjoy "Bullfight", possibly the last statement from a band far better than anything you like.

Where's that new No Age joint?

MP3: Wolf Parade - Cloud Shadow on the Mountain

Not here, unfortunately. But while we await it, here's a track from another Sub Pop band. The new Wolf Parade record is more rockin' than previous efforts, which is always a plus when a band decides to get lively—here's the lead track.

The coolest part is that the fella second from right looks like a young John Candy. NOW GO WATCH CANADIAN BACON.

FUCK NO: About as white as it gets...

The New Pornographers have returned with yet another album of unnecessarily bland adult contemporary songs. One thing about this lot is at least they're formulaic and consistent. NPR and Paste could not be happier to wade their way through another summer of mediocrity. I feel for you, Canada.

The Best Albums Of The Decade: #15 - Reconstruction Site

MP3:
The Weakerthans - One Great City!

#15 - The Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site
Epitaph Records 2003

Matt On Reconstruction Site:

Personally, I find this record to be criminally underrated in large circles. The Weakerthans finally found their home in slightly slicker production values to finally put the focus on John K. Samson's lyrics and give the music the light it had always deserved.
