FUCK YEAH: Quasi - You Can Stay But You Gotta Go [MP3]

MP3: Quasi - You Can Stay But You Gotta Go

Thank the lord, Quasi is back with a new record! Coming right out of the gate with a total ripper, the back-to-being-a-duo has a double LP (!) called Mole City coming out on October 1st from Kill Rock Stars.

Pre-order the album and choose to package the it with their zine, a t-shirt, an outgoing voicemail message recorded by them for you, and/or a limited white label test pressing of the LP. All that plus any pre-orders get a 3 song covers CD-R for free.

That's a lot of content and it more than certainly makes up for the countless nights of us in the living room with the outside light on, fighting sleep while waiting for them to come home.

HOT TRAXXX: Unknown Mortal Orchestra - So Good at Being in Trouble [STREAM]

Unknown Mortal Orchestra once again delivers on incredible production, musicianship and lyricism on "So Good at Being in Trouble", from February 5th's excellent II.

Grouper - Vital [STREAM]

One of my favorite 21st century artists returns!

Grouper will release The Man Who Died in His Boat this February 4th on Kranky - the material comes from the same era as her seminal 2008 LP Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill (which will be re-released at the same time on Kranky), yet has remained unreleased until now. Check out "Vital", which of course sounds like more great business as usual from Liz Harris.

PS I still have some buttons and shirts with the design I did for these dudes way back, email fygt666@gmail.com if you want some, I'll sell em cheap!

Chromatics - Kill for Love [MP3]

As I struggle today to find something to post, Johnny Jewel dropped a zip file on the internet's lap: 11 songs from their genius Kill for Love LP, all minus drums. You can download that, free of charge, by clicking these words right here.

I haven't heard it yet - I can't imagine I will find much value in it, but that was awfully nice of him to offer up such a thing and it gives me an excuse to post today's song. It has drums, it's great.

The Best Song Ever: Mean Jeans - Come Toobin' [MP3]

After repeated (and do we mean repeated) spins, the new Mean Jeans record is finally upon us. With more hits than a Chris Brown domestic disturbance it can be hard to profile a song without referring to the album as whole. However, one of the standouts is truly "Come Toobin'"—with it's 50s beach party meets water park meets summertime feel. The more adult version of "Case Race", "Toobin'" finds the Jeans willing to drop a twenty on admission for the girl of their dreams, all with the hopes of making her their Jamie Jeans Curtis.

"Macaroni über alles /  You melt my sunglasses / Bum wine and a bucket of slime tonight."

Enjoy.

FUCK TRAXXX: Mean Jeans - Anybody Out There? [MP3]

MP3: Mean Jeans - Anybody Out There?

2009 was a real long time ago, but that didn't stop "Are You Serious" by the Mean Jeans from ever sounding fresh. We could've all rested on that albums laurels until the end of time, but the Jeans think beyond the now and even beyond Earth, so they've taken a Jaeger-ship to Mars where they've found better production qualities and a new bass player too.

"Anybody Out There?" is the first taste of Means Jeans on Mars and it shows that while well traveled, the gents haven't forgotten how to write a helluva pop song. This one is gonna be a goddamn legend!

FUCK YEAH: Applebees

MP3: Mean Jeans - Forever Young

Tonight's the night! The whole team is excited for the long awaited Mean Jeans show at Don Pedro's in Brooklyn tonight - I thought I was gonna have to move back to Portland to see these dudes live! They go on at 11PM, it's $6 and it's gonna rule. Tweet at us if you wanna buy me and Matthew drinks, we'll gladly drink them.

More info: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=272922186070229

So here is their cover of "Forever Young" that appeared on the latest Trouble in Mind 4 way split. Everyone loves a rarity right?

Have a fun weekend, but unless you're at this it's probably not gonna be as killer (good luck though!).

New Blouse: Videotapes

More magic from Portland magicians Blouse, who after 2 genius singles have at long last announced their debut full length which is going to be self-titled. I don't get self-titling albums, but whatever. The point is this is going to be great and it's out November 1st on Captured Tracks.

HOT TRAXXX: Warm in the Winter

Hot damn! Glass Candy released another on fire single - it's called Warm in the Winter, it's backed with "Beautiful Object" and it just further proves these mother fuckers can hang, staying cool as hell.

Los Jicks

MP3: Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Forever 28

We're no stranger to SM, and frankly I always look forward to each new release of his slacker jams. With Mirror Traffic out next week, now's a good time to post a track. "Forever 28" finds the Jicks bringing out their inner ELO, and to satisfying results. Enjoy.

New Blitzen Trapper: Your Crying Eyes

MP3:
Blitzen Trapper - Your Crying Eyes

After last year's Kansas sounding affair Destroyer of the Void, Portland's Blitzen Trapper have upped the tempo to something more akin to Furr and Wild Mountain Nation whilst improving on the melodic attempts on Destroyer... What does that mean? (Other than the obvious of being partially familiar with their back catalogue.) Well, fans can expect to tap their toes (and occasionally their heads) along to this contemporary alternative country music band.

HOT TRAXXX: Nights and Days

MP3: Blouse - Nights and Days

Yo Friday: Here is the b-side from Blouse's recent "Shadow" single on Sub Pop. Well worth your investment!

Have a good weekend everyone! Sorry about being so absent recently, lots of crazy craziness is to blame. All caught up mostly, and will totally see you Monday!

Blood.

Had this grandiose plan to update a ton on the blog today with a bunch of cool music but then my bike broke and I took a nasty spill in the process so fuck that. Tonight UMO plays Cafe 9 in New Haven and I'm gonna be there to groove and hopefully stop bleeding. New record out on Fat Possum in like 2 weeks or something. You'll forgive me for not checking.

FUCK YEAH: Future Crimes

I guess it's only expected that the first proper Wild Flag recordings rock as hard as they do. What we have made available for you hear is the A-side from their Record Store Day 7" via Merge, while NPR has a stream of the B-side available. It's no real surprise that this supergroup have kicked it off immediately, and now we only have higher hopes for the full length.
