MP3: Acid House Kings - (I'm In) a Chorus Line

I was hoping that with a six year wait, a new Acid House Kings long player would be nothing but home runs. Alas, that record is "Music Sounds Better With You", and it is full of fouls instead.

There's nothing really wrong with it, per say, but it just comes off as shtick mostly. One of the highlights, however, is the track "(I'm In) a Chorus Line" which is full of piss and pop vigor. I hope it isn't another six year period before we get a follow up because this album leaves a bad taste in the discography's mouth and I'm sure it could use something tasty to wash it down with.

MP3: Ingenting - Halleluja

IT'S THE MATT GIORDANO (ALMOST) WEEK HERE AT FUCK YEAH! GO TEAM!

Hello, from another installment of the Matt Giordano (almost) week here at the blog. Monday being labor day is what makes it an almost week of course... but it's a week of guest posts from our favourite contributor!! Enjoy the good, the bad and the Ingenting. HooOOODOG!

Another hotly anticipated release, especially considered their last album, Mycket Väsen För Ingenting was my favorite of 2006. Well, their new one Tomhet, Idel Tomhet is out now on Labrador. Purchase and enjoy.

David, you're a fucking gem.

MP3: The Radio Dept. - David

Seeing as this blog has made so many return trips from the dead, I try to make sure we come back strong and fierce. I mean, in it's downtime, you'd hope I would have been climbing mountains or walking kittens. Not so much...

But in the Radio Dept.'s downtime, they've made a 3rd record and released an ep/single/masterpiece in "David". Here is the title track. You'll love it if you already love this band and will fall in love with it if you don't. Remember the first time you heard the Radio Dept.? What a great day that was. Good luck to those so lucky!

When I kissed her nipples she shook

MP3: Tribeca - Her breasts were still small

NOTE: Today's contribution comes from Sweden's friend Matt Giordano. He saw Wilco the other day in my next of the woods, I bet it was radical. Should I have gone? Fuck yeah!

The best feature of box-sets is that you constantly, yet slowly, uncover gems with each occasional listen. The example I have here is from the Labrador 100 box set which was released last year. Tribeca's "Her Breasts Were Still Small" is a proto-pubescent pop retelling in the only way it could properly work, as a slow-burning electronic number. Fuck yeah!

Pelle Carlberg

MP3: Pelle Carlberg - I Love You, You Imbecile

MP3: Pelle Carlberg - Crying All the Way to the Pawnshop

The wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL blog that is Swedesplease first turned me onto Pelle Carlberg with "I Love You, You Imbecile" and I was hooked. The lp "In A Nutshell", available from everyone's favourite label Labrador has made it over here to the states thanks to Twentyseven Records (who are on quite a roll with providing us Americans great Swedish tunes). What's it sound like? Well, think Swedish pop of course. I've read early Belle & Sebastian and I can roll with that. It's definitely a light hearted and fun romp. Plus the bio on his website offers the fun fact that he "dislikes male chauvinist pigs". Who doesn't?!

Acid House Kings

MP3: Acid House Kings - This Heart Is A Stone

It's best that I make this post and not Matt. He'll just tell you about the time that he "almost hooked up with the chick from the Acid House Kings". Me? Spring has sprung, smiles are blooming and hearts are bursting and these guys are the perfect soundtrack.

"This Heart Is A Stone" has always been the highlight for me from their superb "Do What You Wanna Do" ep and a really good jumping on point. So jump on or enjoy an old favourite from a band who sounds like your old friends.

The Radio Dept.

MP3: The Radio Dept. - The Worst Taste In Music

NOTE: Today's blog comes from the legendary Matt Giordano. Fuck yeah.

There are always bands who's name I am familiar with but who's music it just took a while to get around to, and usually this is a result of someone recommending them to me, as was the case with The Radio Dept. for me. My friend Arnulf mailed me a couple of mp3 cds about two months ago with a lot of their stuff on it, and I began to really enjoy it. It's very mellow and somewhat melancholy, but easily likeable nonetheless. Anyway, I'm posting this because I wanted to be clever. This track is called “The Worst Taste In Music”, because frankly, if you didn't like my Laakso post (or this one for that matter), then you really do have the worst taste in music. Enjoy.

Ingenting

MP3: Ingenting - Lisa Sa
MP3: Ingenting - Släpp In Solen

I wish I could go into detail about these songs from Sweden's Ingenting, but since all of the lyrics are sung in Swedish, I can't do much for you. In fact, they are the only band on label Labrador, who is based in that country, who doesn't sing in English. "Mycket Väsen För Ingenting" is full of great sunny pop and psych folk influences that makes for a pleasant listen. It manages to change up every song before getting stale and predictable and captures a collection of moments that become a strangely cohesive lp.
