HOT TRAXXX: Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks - Little Fang [VIDEO/MP3]

MP3: Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks - Little Fang

Spoiler alert: Enter the Slasher House, the debut album from Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks, isn't very good. If you're like me then that is a total bummer because their first single, "Little Fang", was quite strong. Seriously, this song sounds fanfuckingtastic and it makes me feel so goddamned good inside. Oh, here's a full disclosure though: I don't like Animal Collective, however I enjoy Panda Bear - so y'know proceed with caution.

Here's the video for that killer jam, but the visuals are completely skippable. Just listen to the musssssiiiccccccc, man.

Twin Sister - Gene Ciampi [MP3]

MP3: Twin Sister - Gene Ciampi

That new Twin Sister record In Heaven sure is nice, but let's go ahead and take a look at some bonus (and completely album-unrelated) images from cover artist/genius Jonny Negron. Enjoy.

Cassual Friday

Always meant to check out Cass McCombs, but I never did. Just streamed "County Line" from his upcoming album "WIT'S END" and it was nice. I don't have a boner or anything, but it was pleasant. The album is out April 12th from Domino.

Dirty P's, on yer knees.

Re-releases are stupid, honestly. They're usually only worthwhile if an album has gone out of print or grown to seminal status over the years. I bet you're expecting me to defend the October re-release of Dirty Projectors' brilliant "Bitte Orca", but I won't because it's fucking stupid.

The good thing to come from this is that the great Other Music pressed a white label vinyl release of all the live tracks recorded at their shop so now you don't have to spend your money on something you've bought before. Mine hasn't arrived in the post yet, but I await it anxiously every single day.

Dirty Projectors Free Virtual 7 Inch

MP3: Dirty Projectors - Ascending Melody

Dirty Projectors have released a 7 inch for 2 songs from the Bitte Orca sessions, originally to appear on a single that never ended up pressed after all (though it leaked like crazy). These song now exist in a limited physical form, which can be purchased here or you can download it from the widget below. Good shit, as to be expected.

The Cinematic Orchestra

MP3: The Cinematic Orchestra - Familiar Ground

{Yikes, things got a little behind. Sorry about that. To come: 3 new features, more FUCK YEAH! posts, a show review, an interview and smiles. Fuck yeah!}

I was at work looking through all the new promos and this little guy, titled "Ma Fleur" by a band called the Cinematic Orchestra, caught my eye. Apparently this band has been around for a long while but I am a slacker and knew nothing of them. But the art on the outside and in contained some of the most strikingly beautiful photographs I have seen on a record in a long time. When I put it in, I had my mental fingers crossed that the audible portion would follow suit. Boy, did it ever.

There is so much to love about Ma Fleur. It is vast in it's landscapes, taking you to so many places in it's 49 minute span. There are different folks singing songs, but the one thing everybody has in common is how soft they are. Pianos and strings paint imagery so dazzling you'll want to live in these photos and songs. It's an ideal life, contained in a compact disc (or vinyl). I think the time this lp really got to me was driving home at 2 in the morning. It was an hour drive, pitch black out and my windows were down. I had a good night leading up to this drive and the tone for the way home was set by the Cinematic Orchestra.

Lush, gorgeous and striking, this is my pick of today's releases. Perfect in every way, it's what you hope to find in an album these days.
