Tame Impala has written many great songs, but "Elephant" is the first one I've heard that is unforgettable. With it's hazy production values and a riff like a fist, the track is just completely unrelenting through and through - it's a virus that will forever rest deep within your insides, constantly pummeling you as a reminder that this is the real fucking shit and you ain't worth a goddamn thing. Fuck yeah.
Hey! There's a new Tame Impala album on the way called Lonerism. What a great title for a record! Here's a new song from it, though I haven't heard yet to give a listen - my girlfriend is asleep and even though she likes this band, I don't think that's how she wants to wake up (boo).
But I bet it's good! I'm gonna take a chance in assuming that at least, so let's hope it all works out!

Kemado just issued Zond's self titled LP in the States (between this and the release of Beaches on their Mexican Summer imprint the company is killing it in Aussie badassery) on some pretty impressive and sexy vinyl wax: 500 pressed on fold-over raw craft paper with metallic silver print sleeve. Cop it.
Yesterday I gave Melbourne, Australia's Beaches a listen and am so grateful that I did: these gals fucking rip bongs and jams, providing a psychedelic big bang in the center of your goddamn heart!
They only have one US release out, last year's 4 song "Eternal Sphere" LP on Mexican Summer, but it's their best one yet and that's where these songs come from. Download them as fast you can, your soul will thank you.

I was listening to the self titled LP from Australia's Bag Raiders that's coming out on Modular on January 25th (happy birthday Daniella & Tom!), which I'm only doing because that label is so goddamned consistent (ceo, Tame Impala, etc).
Anyway, I was on the track "Golden Wings" and the image above appeared in my Tumblr stream. Then it stays up with the rest of the album playing, seeming to go together like peanut butter and fuckin' jelly: so here we are. I'm going with it.
Dance music is going fucking nowhere lately: no one is trying. This fares better and while I can't know of it's lasting appeal, it sounds pretty dope right now. Especially when you're walking in for a pint on Thursday night DJ light show at your local dive. And that's really all you can ask for.
I don't know if you do drugs, but Tame Impala's Aussie psych masterpiece "Innerspeaker" is an audible argument to start. It kinda sounds like Dungen, space, DMT elves and the Fourth World all at once aka it's FUCKING AWESOME!
Not sure if this one is coming stateside or not, but Australia's Catcall is radical. She's down with all your favourite bands like the Gossip, Dan Deacon, Crystal Castles and probably Zeppelin too. "Anniversary", an ep, comes out in the AU in April from Instant Touch Recordings. Look for it, just in time for spring hotness to expand and blow up on ya!
Lullatone's 2006 effort "Plays Pajama Pop Pour Vous" was a list making record that didn't make mine for the sad fact that I didn't catch up until early '07, but made up for it by listening (and falling asleep) to it as much as I could throughout the year. This trend continues into the year current, and luckily I will be able to give it a new partner: the duo release "The Bedtime Beat" in March on Australia's Someone Good record label.
They describe the effort as "our strangest and most pop CD yet, featuring the sounds of bathtubs, underwater humming, snoring cut up into drum beats, Yoshimi's human beatbox and much much more." Count me in. You can sample some of the splashing on "The Bathtime Beat", the album's opener, showcasing their usual brilliance and unique creativity, with the expected/adored focus of singer Yoshimi's hushed vocals on full display behind Shawn's understated production choices.
Fuck yeah.
